What is a tea pet?
A tea pet is a small ceramic companion kept on the tea tray. During a session, people often share the first rinse or leftover tea with it. Unglazed clay gradually develops a deeper colour and soft sheen.
Does every tea pet change with use?
Unglazed and partly glazed pieces change most visibly because exposed clay can absorb tea oils. Fully glazed pieces are easier to rinse and usually keep their original surface.
Can I use any kind of tea?
Yes. If you want a more consistent aroma and patina, use one tea family. Avoid sweeteners, milk and scented cleaning products on porous clay.
How do I clean it?
Rinse with clean warm water and let it air dry completely. Skip soap on porous clay. See the Tea Pet Care page for the full routine.
Are tea pets cups or toys?
No. Unless a product is expressly described otherwise, Steepra tea pets are decorative tea-tray objects. They are not drinkware and are not intended as children’s toys.
Will my piece look exactly like the photograph?
Small variations in clay tone, firing marks and hand finishing are part of ceramic production. Product pages identify details that may naturally vary.
